The Story: Ch. 4 Deliverance
What does it mean to truly trust God when everything around us feels uncertain or even dangerous? The story of Moses and the Exodus brings that question to life in a powerful way. We explore how God revealed himself through his name, Yahweh, the self-existent one who always was and always will be, and how that revelation was not just a theological detail but a declaration that the one true God stands apart from every false source of security we might cling to. Through ten plagues that dismantled ten Egyptian gods one by one, we see God systematically breaking down the illusions of power and safety that humans construct for themselves. The message cuts close to home: we all build our own versions of those illusions, whether through comfort, career, retirement, or the simple desire for a life free of struggle. The Israelites complained almost immediately after their miraculous deliverance, longing for the predictability of slavery over the uncertainty of freedom. That tension is deeply familiar to us. The invitation here is to recognize where we have made safety itself into an idol, and to consider what it might look like to trade that idol for active, raw, Spirit-led faith that actually engages the world around us.
